Shannon Salama
Psychologist (Provisional) Bella Vista, Sydney

KNOW Shannon
Shannon is a collaborative, genuine, and caring psychologist who is passionate about walking alongside her clients through life’s complex moments. With warmth, curiosity, and kindness, she creates a grounded and emotionally safe environment where clients feel heard, understood, and supported.
Shannon brings a down-to-earth approach that helps clients explore, grow, and find their way forward. Whether navigating anxiety, stress, low mood, trauma, or life transitions, she works collaboratively to support real and lasting change by exploring and understanding the underlying factors contributing to distress or discomfort.
She is driven by a genuine love of helping people, believing there is nothing more meaningful than witnessing individuals heal, reconnect with themselves, and regain hope or clarity. Becoming a psychologist allows Shannon to live out her personal value—“to be the change I want to see in the world”—through compassion, integrity, and meaningful action.
Shannon’s Approach
Shannon has worked across both private practice and community settings, supporting children, adolescents, and adults experiencing a wide range of psychological difficulties. She works closely with individuals presenting with anxiety and stress-related concerns, interpersonal and attachment-related difficulties, trauma and grief, as well as those adjusting to significant life changes or navigating academic, workplace, or family-related stress.
She has experience working alongside clients with disabilities, neurodiversity, and individuals from minority community groups, and strongly believes that everyone deserves respect, dignity, and equitable care.
Shannon takes a person-centred, collaborative approach to therapy, grounded in the belief that every person and lived experience is unique. She tailors therapy to the individual, emphasising walking alongside clients rather than directing them, and meeting each person where they are with curiosity, respect, and genuine care. While she may not have lived her clients’ experiences, she is deeply committed to understanding them.
She prioritises creating a safe, validating, and trauma-informed space where clients feel seen, heard, and supported. Shannon shows up authentically, with warmth and appropriate emotional presence, and views trust as something earned through consistency, honesty, and care. She is deeply curious and values asking thoughtful questions to understand the broader context in which clients exist, including the influence of past experiences, relationships, and belief systems. Exploring these patterns allows for meaningful insight and supports long-lasting change.
Her aim is to support clients to feel capable of facing challenges, advocating for themselves, and embracing change. She believes healing often occurs outside the comfort zone and that actions shape identity. Shannon sees her role as supporting growth while honouring each client’s pace, strengths, and autonomy.
Drawing on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness-based approaches, Shannon takes an integrative and flexible stance. Therapy with her is never one-size-fits-all—it is tailored to you, your goals, and how you work best.
Experience
Shannon is trained, skilled, and equipped to treat a broad range of presentations, including Neurodevelopmental Disorders (ASD, ADHD, learning, intellectual, social, communication, tic, and stuttering disorders), Schizophrenia Spectrum and Other Psychotic Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Depressive Disorders, Anxiety Disorders (including Panic Disorder, Social Anxiety, Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Selective Mutism, and Separation Anxiety), Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders (including Body Dysmorphic Disorder, Hoarding Disorder, Trichotillomania, and Skin-Picking Disorder), Trauma- and Stressor-Related Disorders (including PTSD, grief, adjustment difficulties, and reactive attachment), Dissociative Disorders, Somatic Symptom and Illness Anxiety Disorders, Feeding and Eating Disorders, Elimination Disorders, Sleep-Wake Disorders, Sexual Dysfunctions, Gender Dysphoria, Disruptive, Impulse-Control and Conduct Disorders, Substance-Related and Addictive Disorders (including gambling, alcohol, cannabis, and other substances), Neurocognitive Disorders (including Dementia and Traumatic Brain Injury), and Personality Disorders.
Passion
Shannon is passionate about working with clients of all ages, with a particular interest in children, adolescents, and young adults. She recognises this stage of life as pivotal for emotional development, identity formation, and long-term mental wellbeing. She is drawn to supporting individuals to build insight, confidence, and practical tools to navigate challenges such as anxiety, stress, and low mood. Shannon is also deeply committed to trauma-informed work and understands the profound impact of feeling truly seen, heard, and safe within the therapeutic space.
On a Personal Level
Shannon grew up in the Hills District in a loud, close-knit family, an environment that fostered a strong sense of observation and curiosity about the world around her. From a young age, she was drawn to understanding people—their behaviours, relationships, and the experiences that shape who they are—often asking thoughtful questions in search of deeper meaning. Her personal life experiences further strengthened her empathy and desire to help others, particularly after witnessing the impact of mental health challenges on individuals, families, and communities. Discovering psychology provided Shannon with a framework to explore these questions and a meaningful way to support healing, allowing her to combine her curiosity, compassion, and commitment to helping others.
Outside of work, Shannon enjoys spending time in nature, swimming at the beach, and hiking in the mountains. She loves spending time with family and friends, listening to live music, travelling, and baking.
Shannons’s Appointments
Shannon is a full-time therapist and is deeply devoted to her work within the practice. She is available for appointments on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with after-hours availability on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons and evenings at Bella Vista or via Telehealth.

Clients often describe her as easy to open up to, with a style that is calm, grounding, and deeply respectful.
Born in New Zealand and raised between Pakistan and Sydney, Jessica grew up immersed in different cultures. This gave her a natural curiosity about how culture, conditioning, and unspoken expectations shape how we see ourselves—and how we live. These early insights are part of what led her to psychology: a desire to help people explore their inner world, challenge unhelpful patterns, and move towards greater clarity and emotional freedom.
Jessica’s Approach
Jessica has experience supporting adults across a range of challenges and life transitions. Her sessions are client-centred and collaborative, grounded in the belief that therapy is a meeting of two experts: the client, who knows themselves best, and the psychologist, who brings insight and guidance through the therapeutic process.
Jessica’s role is to walk alongside her clients, to help them understand their patterns, reconnect with their values, and develop meaningful pathways forward. She draws on evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness-based approaches, schema therapy and Trauma focused CBT integrating these in a way that’s responsive to the individual.
